Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Enjoyable, but only runs a half hour shorter than The Fellowship of the Ring with about a quarter of the world-building and plot, so it sits in limbo between action movie and loregastic epic.

★★★12

So I really did enjoy this and I purposefully water-fasted so that I could sit through the whole thing in one shot, but damn she went from saying nothing so a bunch of cowboy speeches at the end, and there are so many other parts that I feel could have been massively tightened up to make this a more audience-friendly runtime instead of approaching epic slog at times. Thank god for the set-piece action scenes that periodically remind you why you came to the movies. I guess that's why they had to call it a 'saga'.

I'm not even against the marvel-fication of the Mad Max universe, if done well. This honestly probably would have worked better as a mini-series or something if George Miller wanted to go all George Martin with his shit. I'd be up for that. Maybe they could have explored why Praetorian Jack was such a limp noodle despite having a badass job...
